The City of Iowa City is one of three Iowa communities to earn a score of 100 on the eighth annual Municipal Equality Index (MEI), the only nationwide rating system of LGBTQ inclusion in municipal law, policy and services.

As part of its deer population management program, the City of Iowa City has placed deer crossing signage in the following locations:

Scott Boulevard, just west of Rochester Avenue Scott Boulevard, just east of North Dodge Street First Avenue, just south of Scott Boulevard First Avenue, just north of Rochester Avenue

There is likely to be increased deer activity in these areas in the coming weeks. As always, please use caution when driving in posted locations.

Administrative offices at City Hall and other facilities will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29, 2019, for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Curbside garbage, recycling, and organic waste will not be collected on Thanksgiving Day, but will be collected on Friday. Detailed schedule changes and other office closures are below:

City again receives national Distinguished Budget Presentation Award

City of Iowa City Finance Director Dennis Bockenstedt has been notified that for the eighth consecutive year, the City’s Finance Department has been awarded the national Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).

The award, which is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting, recognizes the City’s FY2020 budget, which took effect July 1, 2019.

The GFOA notes that this award represents significant achievement and a commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.

Select City parks to close at 3 p.m. daily during deer management operations

Starting Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019, select City parks will be closed each day from 3 p.m. to dawn to allow for deer management.

In order to reduce the deer population, White Buffalo, Inc. has been hired to strategically and professionally carry out sharpshooting measures.
