UPDATE: Missing Iowa City resident Siraj White-Wright was found by a motorist at approximately 4:45 p.m Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021, south of Burlington, Iowa. He is reported to be in good condition. Arrangements are being made for him to be reunited with his family members.

City offers new online signup for special items collection for curbside customers

The City is now offering a new online sign-up for curbside collection of special items. Customers can schedule collection for items such as furniture and appliances to be picked up at the curb for proper disposal or recycling, depending on the item. Collection fees are added to customers’ monthly utility bills.

Crews to tow parts of Iowa, Jefferson, College, Washington, Prentiss, Dubuque, Clinton streets for snow plowing

The City of Iowa City will tow vehicles to allow plows to clear the entire width of the street beginning at 7 a.m. on both Thursday, Feb. 25 and Friday, Feb. 26, 2021.

During this time, on-street parking will be prohibited in posted areas. Vehicles that are not moved will be towed. Crews will post 'No Parking Due to Maintenance' signs at least 48-hours in advance, beginning Monday, Feb. 22, 2021.

UI students and general public, please take note, and seek alternative parking during this time.

Sammy Imaedeen Hamed, 22, of Iowa City has been charged with Murder in the 1st Degree for the death of Quincy Russom. This matter remains under active investigation by the Iowa City Police Department, the Johnson County Attorney’s Office, and the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office.
