City of Iowa City administrative offices at City Hall and other facilities will be closed Thursday, Nov. 24 and Friday, Nov. 25, 2016 for the Thanksgiving holiday. Other closures or adjustments to schedules for the holiday are as follows:
Airport: The administration office will be closed Thursday and Friday for the holidays. Jet Air will be available Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Friday, will be open regular hours. Jet Air will also be available after hours for callout at 319-248-1200 (fees apply). Self-serve Avgas and Jet-A available around the clock.
Animal Care and Adoption Center: Closed both days.
Cemetery: The office at Oakland Cemetery will be closed both Thursday and Friday. Artificial wreaths, artificial flowers, or other decorations may be placed on graves for the holidays. These materials will remain in place through the end of February 2017. If not claimed by then, they will be removed by Cemetery staff.
Landfill and Recycling Center: Closed Thursday, but open regular hours on Friday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Library: The Library will be closing at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23. It will be closed all day on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day. Friday hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Parking: The Parking and Transportation Office will be closed Thursday and Friday. On Thursday, ramp and on-street metered parking will be free. On Friday, normal operations and rates will be in effect for on-street meters and ramps. On Saturday, Nov. 26, on-street metered and ramp parking will be free in support of Small Business Saturday.
Parks and Recreation: On Wednesday, Nov. 23, pools will close at 4 p.m. and the recreation centers will close at 5 p.m. On Thanksgiving Day, all facilities will be closed. On Friday, the recreation centers will be open Sunday hours, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pools at both facilities will open at 1 p.m. Administrative offices will be closed.
Police: Patrol personnel and station masters will be on duty, and the Police Department front desk will be open.
Senior Center: The Senior Center will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23, and no extended member hours or evening programs will be scheduled. The Senior Center will be closed both Thursday and Friday. Elder Services will not be serving a meal on the 24th or 25th. Regular Senior Center hours and member access will resume on Saturday, Nov. 26.
Solid Waste: Refuse, recycling, and yard waste will not be collected on Thanksgiving Day. Operations will resume on Friday, Nov. 25, when both Thursday and Friday routes will be collected. Residents on these routes should place materials at the curb by 7 a.m. on Friday, although the City cannot determine exactly what time the items will be collected.
Transit: There will be no free shuttle service from Monday, Nov. 21 through Friday, Nov. 25. The Parking and Transportation Office will be closed Thursday and Friday for the holiday. On Thursday, buses will not run. On Friday, Transit will operate a “Football Saturday” schedule, free of charge. On Saturday, Nov. 26, a normal Saturday schedule will be in effect, free of charge.
Water: The Water Division office will be closed both days, but a 24-hour emergency line and on-call staff will be available. Residents who have a water emergency should call 319-356-5166 for assistance.
City offices and operations will return to normal schedules on Monday, Nov. 28.
