All persons claiming to be harmed by a discriminatory or unfair practice within Iowa City may now file a complaint with the Human Rights Office online at www.icgov.org/humanrights. A complaint filed with the Human Rights Office must be filed within three hundred (300) days after the alleged discriminatory or unfair practice occurred. Online complaint submittals allow for persons to file a complaint with the Human Rights Office 24/7. This streamlines the process and allows for an efficient and accessible way for persons to report discrimination. Individuals still have the option of filing a written complaint with the Human Rights Office or can make an appointment to use a computer in the Human Rights Office to file an online complaint. Areas currently covered by local anti-discrimination laws include: employment, housing, public accommodation, credit and education.
