The City of Iowa City is hosting an open house at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at the Iowa City Public Library to provide feedback and ask questions about potential strategies to address the issue of affordable housing in the community. The Library is located at 123 S. Linn Street in downtown Iowa City.

Providing affordable housing is a challenge many growing communities across the country are facing, and it’s a top priority for the Iowa City City Council. In its 2016-2017 Strategic Plan, the Council set out to create an achievable goal and implement strategies to help tackle the affordable housing problem in Iowa City.

City staff presented an Affordable Housing Action Plan to the Council during a work session on June 21, 2016. During the presentation, staff gave a review of existing affordable housing programs, recent progress, and a list of potential new strategies and funding sources.

The community is invited and encouraged to provide input on the issue of affordable housing and the Affordable Housing Action Plan. For those unable to attend the open house, comments can be emailed to affordablehousing@iowa-city.org, mailed or delivered to:
