A mock-up of a proposed information kiosk for Washington Street.
The City of Iowa City will host an open house regarding Washington Street updates from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3 at the Iowa City/Johnson County Senior Center, 28 S. Linn Street. City staff and the design team will review construction phasing plans, proposed sequencing, and key substantial completion target dates for Washington Street. The project is part of the larger Downtown and Pedestrian Mall Streetscape plan.

Wayfinding kiosks are proposed within the Washington Street study area and will be located at the intersections with Clinton, Dubuque and Linn Streets. As part of the current design phase, a full scale mock-up of the upper portion of the kiosk has been fabricated and is currently on display at the Senior Center. The public is invited to stop by to review the design and craftsmanship of the kiosk through Dec. 3.

The mock-up was cut from ½” thick aluminum plate and communicates “Welcome” in eight different languages. It is internally illuminated by LED lights.
