After a snow-filled January, February brought with it yet another snowstorm that ended at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021.

Why all the reminders? Although many long-time residents are aware of snow removal requirements in Iowa City, this serves as notice for the general public, including those new to our City, of our snow removal ordinance and when enforcement can begin – 24 hours following a one-inch or greater snowfall or ice accumulation. Iowa City’s quarterly financial report for the quarter that ended Dec. 31, 2020 is now available at www.icgov.org/budget . This report provides information on the City’s fund balances, revenues, and expenditures compared to budgeted amounts and budget variances.

The quarterly financial report is required by the City Council’s Financial and Fiscal Policies.

Pandemic relief grants provide $360,400 to 27 Iowa City small businesses

Due to the far-reaching economic implications of the COVID-19 pandemic to small businesses, the City of Iowa City awarded $360,400 to 27 small businesses in Iowa City. The City prioritized applications based on the following, in priority order: 1) financial impact of COVID on the business; 2) extent of federal, state or local assistance received or awarded to date; and 3) qualification as a Minority or Women Business Enterprise (majority ownership and control of a business entity by a person of color or a woman).

Ann Thompson named Iowa City Police Department's new Victim Services Coordinator

Ann Thompson has been named to serve as the Iowa City Police Department's first full-time Victim Services Coordinator. Thompson officially began the role on Jan. 26, 2021.

The position focuses on working with victims directly, by helping them access services related to the criminal justice system, while also mitigating the impacts of crime on the victims. In the new position, Thompson will also provide training to ICPD officers, as well as providing public education and sharing resources related to victim services.

Federal law requiring face masks on public transit buses goes into effect Feb. 2, 2021

Crews will remove snow in Downtown Iowa City overnight Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021, beginning at 2 a.m. Vehicles parked in tow-away zones will be removed.

Towing will impact the following streets: Prentiss to Market, Madison to Gilbert, as well as N. Clinton Street from Market to Church. The parking in these areas are metered spots, which do not permit parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. Follow all posted parking signs to prevent your vehicle from being towed.
