Iowa City Police Department investigates Friday evening suspicious death

On Friday, Feb. 12, 2021 at approximately 7:54 p.m., Iowa City Police were called to an apartment in the 600 block of South Governor Street in Iowa City for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found a deceased adult male victim. A witness advised that three men entered the residence, shot the victim, and fled.

The incident remains under investigation by the Iowa City Police Department, the Johnson County Attorney’s Office, and the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office. The victim has been identified, but the identity will not be released pending family notification...

The City of Iowa City Public Art Advisory Committee (PAAC) announces the availability of matching funds up to $2,000 for public art projects including, visual, audio, or performance-based art. Projects can include sculptures, murals, performances, readings, interactive exhibits, video projections, soundscapes, spoken word, and other mediums.

To be eligible, proposals must be for projects created by Iowa City artists, they must be publicly accessible and viewable within Iowa City city limits. Art may be displayed or performed on private property with property owner permission....

The latest snowstorm in February ended at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, 2021. Thank you to all of our residents who have been clearing the sidewalks of snow and ice during this abundant season. A special thanks to all who take care of their neighbors who need a hand.

Crews will remove snow in Downtown Iowa City overnight Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021, beginning at 2 a.m. Vehicles parked in tow-away zones will be removed.

Towing will impact the following streets: Prentiss to Market, Madison to Gilbert, as well as N. Clinton Street from Market to Church. The parking in these areas are metered spots, which do not permit parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. Follow all posted parking signs to prevent your vehicle from being towed.
