With temperatures expected to reach the mid-90s today (June 9, 2016) and this weekend, and heat indices anticipated to reach close to 100 degrees at times, City of Iowa City staff remind residents and visitors of the various City facilities available for the public to enjoy while staying cool:

Recreation Centers
The Robert A. Lee Recreation Center, 220 S. Gilbert Street, and Mercer Park Aquatic Center / Scanlon Gym, 2701 Bradford Drive, offer air-conditioned space as well as a variety of indoor recreational opportunities. Please note that open gym time is limited due to summer programming. Both facilities are open weekdays from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

City Pools
The City's pools and splash pads also provide opportunities to cool down. The drop-in swim fee is $4 per person. Swim passes are also available for purchase. Open swim hours during the week are as follows:

City Park Pool: Open for adult lap swim all week from 11:30 to 1 p.m. Public open swim is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. Twilight Swim is offered from 5 to 8 p.m. for a reduced fee of $2 per person.
Mercer Park Pool: Open 1 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Robert A. Lee Pool: Open for public swim Monday through Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. Open late on Fridays from 5 to 8 p.m. for Family Swim, at a reduced fee of $1 per person. On Saturday, public lap swim is scheduled from 6:15 a.m. to noon. The pool is closed on Sunday.

Splash / Spray Pads
Splash / spray pads are open daily until 8 p.m. and require no fee. They are located at:

Wetherby Park, 2400 Taylor Drive
Fairmeadows Park, 2500 Miami Drive
Tower Court Park, 1124 Tower Court

Public Library
The Public Library, 123 S. Linn Street, is also a great place to cool off. Residents can get started on a terrific book or check out the variety of other materials available. Library hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Senior Center
The Senior Center, 28 S. Linn Street, is open to the general public between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Visitors can learn about the many programs available for seniors, read a magazine or grab a book from the Center’s library.
