A socially distanced meet and greet for the three Police Chief finalists has been set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 24, 2020, on the lawn of Mercer Park between the gym and the playground.

Face coverings and social distancing will be required to participate in this event due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the City's face covering ordinance. The City will provide masks at no charge to participants who do not have one.

The event will feature circles painted on the lawn so individuals or groups of no larger than 4 people can participate and maintain social distancing. Circles are first-come-first-served and residents are asked to remain in their circle for the duration of the event.

Each of the three Police Chief candidates will give a brief introduction over an amplified sound system, and then the candidates will walk through the lawn and meet those in attendance, maintaining a safe social distance.

Those in attendance will be asked to provide feedback on the candidates. Paper surveys will be provided, but the City recommends sending thoughts to policechiefsearch@iowa-city.org. Those who attend should also bring their own chairs, blankets, and water.

City Channel 4 will be at the event to record the candidate's remarks for those who are not able attend.

The rain location for this event will be inside Scanlon Gym.

If any accommodations to attend this event are needed, please contact the City Manager's Office at 319-356-5010.
