You already chip in with your tax dollars, now chip in with your opinion!

The community is invited to attend Chip In, an open house where you can let City leaders know how you think funding should be spent, all while munching on dips – and you guessed it – chips!

Join us at 6 p.m. on Monday, August 6, 2018, in Emma Harvat Hall at City Hall, 410 E. Washington St. The event will open with a brief overview of the City’s strategic plan, master plan, capital improvements, and general operations. Participants will then be given voting chips to designate how they think their tax dollars should be prioritized. This can include anything from park improvements to road repairs, as well as programs, activities and significant projects. A map will also be displayed where residents can mark specific areas they think need improvement.

Staff, including City Manager Geoff Fruin, Finance Director Dennis Bockenstedt, Parks and Recreation Director Juli Seydell Johnson and Public Works Director Ron Knoche, will also be available to answer questions. Chips, along with salsas and queso, will be served.

Iowa City Parks & Recreation Summer Playground staff will provide activities for children ages 3 to 10 in an adjacent conference room. This is a drop in activity – no registration or fee.

For folks who cannot “chip in” in person, a portion of the event will be broadcast live on the City of Iowa City Facebook Page, which will include a survey to share your priorities electronically.

For updates and reminders, RSVP to the Facebook event. For more information, contact Ashley Monroe at or 319-356-5012.
