Iowa City Police officers will be at The Java House, 1575 S. 1st Ave., Iowa City from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2017.

There is no agenda scheduled. This is an opportunity to ask questions, voice concerns, and get to know police officers in a relaxed setting over a cup of coffee.

Court Street closure

Court Street closure delayed due to weather

Due to weather conditions, the Court Street closure from Clinton to Dubuque Streets, has been postponed to Wednesday, March 22, 2017. This closure is necessary to install new sanitary and storm sewer. Traffic should resume to normal by the end of the day Friday, March 24. People will still be able to access the Court Street Transportation Center. Buses will temporarily park on Dubuque Street.

The Iowa City Fire Department is reminding residents to change smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors batteries when changing clocks forward one hour during daylight saving time on Sunday, March 12, 2017.

Maintaining smoke alarm carbon monoxide detector batteries is one of the simplest, most effective ways to reduce injury and death caused by a fire.

As we “spring forward” the Iowa City Fire Department recommends residents do the following:

Mayflower north visitor parking lot to close for work on Gateway Project through 2017

The north visitor parking lot located next to the University of Iowa’s Mayflower Residence Hall on Dubuque Street will close on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at noon for continued work on the Iowa City Gateway Project.

It will remain closed through 2017. The meters will be hooded starting on the evening of Saturday, March 11.

The lot will instead be used for the University of Iowa Cambus turnaround. A traffic light has also been installed at the Residence Hall to allow for the buses to re-enter traffic. Cambus was previously using the access road at Terrell Mill Park to turnaround...

On March 29, 2017 Iowa City Parks and Recreation will begin accepting registration forms for summer camp. Camps will run weekly starting on June 12 and ending August 11. The camp day runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with optional supervised play from 7:30 – 9 a.m. and from 4 - 5:30 p.m. at no additional cost. Camp Thunder will cater to children in grades K-3, Camp Lightning is for children grades 4-6, and STEAM Camp, which will focus on subjects related to Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math, is available for children in grades K-6.
