Update 11/01/2017: The traffic pattern will change at approximately 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017. This switch will also close Kimball Road at Dubuque Street to vehicles and pedestrians, however the intersection of Kimball Road and Gilbert Street will remain open at this time.

Original message: 10/31/2017: Vehicles will begin driving on the elevated portion of Dubuque Street from Mayflower Residence Hall to Park Road beginning as early as Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017.

With this change, the crossover at the south end of Mayflower Residence Hall will no longer be used and all traffic will use the new southbound lanes from Foster Road to Park Road. Work will begin immediately on utility installation and the elevation of the northbound lanes.

Pedestrians and cyclists should also take note of this change. They will use the new Iowa River Trail when traveling between Foster Road and Park Road. Pedestrian access to Mayflower will be located at the temporary traffic signals where the current crosswalk is located. See the pedestrian map below.

Temporary access to Mayflower, residences and apartments adjacent to Dubuque Street will be maintained during construction. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes and allow extra travel time as delays will occur. As always, use caution when traveling through construction areas.

The Iowa City Gateway Project is a flood mitigation effort that is elevating Dubuque Street while raising and replacing the Park Road Bridge.
