City releases 100 Day Report on Climate Action Acceleration

The City has released its report, Accelerating Iowa City’s Climate Actions, in response to a request by the Iowa City City Council.

The report is now available in its entirety on the City's website.

On Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2019, the Council declared a Climate Crisis in response to the latest climate science research that was issued since the completion of the Iowa City Climate Action and Adaption in September of 2018.

City begins deer population management activities

As part of its deer population management program, the City of Iowa City has placed deer crossing signage in the following locations:

Scott Boulevard, just west of Rochester Avenue Scott Boulevard, just east of North Dodge Street First Avenue, just south of Scott Boulevard First Avenue, just north of Rochester Avenue

There is likely to be increased deer activity in these areas in the coming weeks. As always, please use caution when driving in posted locations.

America Recycles Day is Friday, Nov. 15, 2019. The City of Iowa City encourages you to celebrate by recycling at the curb or at a drop-off location to support our community’s waste reduction and climate action goals.

The City continues to see increased rates of recycling since the distribution of new 65-gallon recycling carts last December. (Great work, Iowa City residents!) Recycling weights have increased an average of 30% per month over the previous year and contamination...

The Iowa City leaf vacuum will visit the following one-way streets on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019:

Market Street (south side – odd numbered properties)

Jefferson Street (north side – even numbered properties)

Dodge Street (east side – even numbered properties)

Applications are now being accepted for the 2020 Citizens Police Academy.

This workshop is sponsored by five area agencies, and works to promote understanding of what law enforcement does, builds better community relationships, and provides an overview for people who may be interested in police work as a career.

Mark your calendars for the annual Iowa City Holiday Market.

This year, the Iowa City Holiday Market will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, Dec. 14 at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center, 220 S. Gilbert Street.

The Market will be held in the Recreation Center's first floor gymnasium and second floor Social Hall. Farmers Market vendors and artists will have homemade, handcrafted, seasonal gifts, and food available for purchase.
