A neighborhood public input meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2020, at Creekside Park, 1858 7th Avenue Court, to discuss a public art project at the park. The gathering will be held at the shelter area.

In 2017, the City Council created the Social Justice and Racial Equity (SJRE) Grant to assist community-based organizations in building capacity to address social justice and racial equity needs. Seventy-five thousand dollars has been allocated yearly for the SJRE Grant since Fiscal Year 2019.

On Monday, Feb. 24, 2020, City Manager Geoff Fruin appointed Captain Bill Campbell to serve as Interim Police Chief, effective immediately.

The appointment follows the departure of current Police Chief Jody Matherly, who previously announced his retirement from the Iowa City Police Department earlier this month.

Captain Campbell was hired by the Iowa City Police Department on April 27, 1990, and served as a patrol officer and field training officer before being promoted to the rank of sergeant on December 22, 1996.
