The 100 block of Washington Street is currently open to one lane of one-way, westbound traffic as work continues on the Washington Streetscape Project.

The project is part of the larger Downtown and Pedestrian Mall Streetscape plan . Washington Street work includes replacing aging, underground infrastructure while giving the street a fresh, updated look with new amenities like lighting, benches and planters.

On Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016, the City of Iowa City Human Rights Commission and Housing Authority, Goodwill of the Heartland, Iowa WORKS, Shelter House, Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services, and Successful Living and Supportive Housing are sponsoring a Job and Resource Fair at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center, 220 South Gilbert Street in Iowa City, from 3 to 5 p.m. There is no charge or fee for job seekers to attend. Over 20 local employers are registered to participate.

All are welcome to attend an upcoming public Meet and Greet with three members of the Iowa City City Council, organized by the Neighborhood Council of Iowa City.

The event will take place Wednesday, Sept. 14 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Terry Trueblood Recreation Area. People will gather at Shelter No. 1, located near the playground at the northwest corner of the recreation area.

Councilmembers Susan Mims, Rockne Cole and Pauline Taylor will take questions from the neighborhood council. If time allows, those in attendance will be able to bring-up other thoughts or topics....

Come and get a "Taste of Market," on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. at the Chauncey Swan parking ramp, 405 E. Washington St. Guitarist Rob Lumbard will perform live music, and market staff will grill and hand out free samples of in-season fruits, vegetables, and baked goods provided by Iowa City Farmers Market vendors.

Dodge Street down to one lane for school water service work

Dodge Street is down to one lane of traffic between Church and Fairchild Streets effective immediatetly.

This emergency lane reduction is necessary for contractors to work on the water service line to Mann Elementary School. It's anticipated that the work will be completed and normal traffic will resume by the end of the day Friday, Sept. 9.

Drivers should allow extra travel time as delays may occur. As always, use caution when driving through a work area.

Due to the chance of heavy rainfall this afternoon, the Mayor's Walk previously scheduled for Tues. Sept. 7 will instead take place on Monday, Sept. 12.

Animal Services needs help locating pony owner

Iowa City Animal Services needs help locating the owner of a wandering pony.

On September 6, 2016 Iowa City Animal Services responded to a report of a stray pony seen around the Terry Trueblood Recreation Area. Upon arrival, Animal Services was able to locate and impound the pony.

A veterinarian will examine the pony. It will then be housed off-site until ownership can be identified.

Household hazardous waste collection scheduled Friday

The City of Iowa City will sponsor a mobile household hazardous waste collection event from 8 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, 2016 in the parking lot of the East Side Recycling Center, 2401 Scott Blvd SE. Area residents who are served by the Iowa City Landfill, including Iowa City and other Johnson County communities, rural Johnson County, Kalona and Riverside, may bring in one box of household hazardous waste per household for disposal. There is no cost to participate.
