Residents and neighborhoods across Iowa City are encouraged to participate in an event that calls for folks to lock their doors, turn on the their porch lights, and enjoy an evening outside with neighbors and patrol officers with the Iowa City Police Department. National Night Out is set for Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017 and will run from 5 to 7 p.m., be sure to save the date.

An event is scheduled at Wetherby Park, but neighbors are encouraged to participate with a gathering of their own, like a block party, cookout or anti-crime rally. Organizers are asked to let the Iowa City Police Department know about their events so the Department can coordinate a visit by police officers, firefighters, Herky the Hawkeye and McGruff the Crime Dog.

Contact Officer A. Hayes at 319-356-5273 or email crime-prevention@iowa-city.org with your event location and information, as well as any questions.
