Members of the City Council have determined that At-Large Council Member Bruce Teague will serve as Iowa City’s Mayor.
Teague succeeds Jim Throgmorton, who had served as Mayor for four years before deciding not to run for re-election.
Council members voted 5-2, during a special session that started at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2020.
The Council also selected At-Large City Council member Mazahir Salih to serve as Mayor Pro-Tem. She replaces Councilor Pauline Taylor.
In Iowa City, the Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem are determined among the City Council, not the public. The terms will continue until January 2, 2022.
