Downtown Iowa City thrives because it is accessible by all modes of transportation. A big part of the master plan effort is to make Iowa City even more accessible for cyclists and pedestrians. We are happy to announce that the City and University of Iowa were recently awarded a $135,000 grant from the State of Iowa for a bike share program. Bike share programs allow users to check out bikes on a short-term basis. Much like the Zipcar, car share service already existing downtown, a bike share can reduce dependence on automobiles and help strengthen the housing and tourism market in the community.

The City and University of Iowa are finalizing plans for the rollout of the bike share program. Stay tuned for more information on a 2016 launch!
