A change in on-street and surface lot parking that will improve public access to City Hall has been approved by the City Council. The changes will provide additional customer parking near the front lobby and the northeast entrances, both of which are handicap accessible. The southeast entrance, the only entrance to City Hall that was not handicap accessible, will now be restricted to use by staff only.
The parking spaces in front of City Hall at 410 E. Washington Street will be converted to free parking for people visiting or conducting business in City Hall -- 30 minutes for regular spaces and one hour for the handicap-accessible space. The parking spaces are located near the front entrance lobby door to City Hall, which provides a ramp and push-button door for handicap accessibility.
In addition, another handicap-accessible parking space will be added to the visitors’ parking area outside the northeast door.
Visitor parking in the lot outside the southeast entrance door will be converted to parking for City-owned vehicles.
The changes will take effect immediately.
