Backyard Abundance, in partnership with the City of Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department, will host a “Smoothie and Harvest Party” at the Wetherby Park Edible Forest at 2400 Taylor Drive in Iowa City on Saturday, Aug. 1. The event, which is open to the public, will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. There is no fee to participate.
Attendees will help harvest cherries, aronia berries, and culinary herbs while on a site tour, and will also enjoy smoothies and snacks made with fruits harvested from trees and shrubs in the garden. The event will also highlight the installation of informational signage that describes specific features of edible plants at the site. Each sign is imprinted with a QR code that can be scanned by a mobile device to learn more about the plant, including recipes.
