Thanks to an unusually snow-filled January, City crews and residents will have one more snow removal to complete this month.

The City wants to thank all the residents who have been diligently clearing their sidewalks of snow during these snow-filled weeks. We know it's not easy, we also know how challenging it can be. A special thanks to all who take care of their neighbors who need a hand.

To ensure the safety of neighbors, daily child and dog walkers, and those who require sidewalk access for their commutes, snow should be cleared within 24-hours of a one-inch or greater...

The City will be hosting and co-hosting numerous events throughout February 2021 to commemorate Black History Month. The month will feature book clubs, presentations, lessons, and more, aimed at celebrating the impact Black Americans have had on our country, and educating people on the barriers Black Americans have faced, and still face today.

A snowstorm is slated to hit Iowa City this weekend, once again bringing large amounts of snow. Forecasts predict anywhere between three to eight inches of total accumulation between Saturday, Jan. 30, and Sunday, Jan. 31, 2021.

Crews will remove snow in Downtown Iowa City overnight Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021, beginning at 2 a.m. Vehicles parked in tow-away zones will be removed.

Towing will impact the following streets: Prentiss to Market, Madison to Gilbert, as well as N. Clinton Street from Market to Church. The parking in these areas are metered spots, which do not permit parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. Follow all posted parking signs to prevent your vehicle from being towed.

On a positive note, we didn’t receive the higher snowfall totals that we were expecting. But another round of snow wrapped up at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021, continuing a lively streak of snowstorms throughout January, and leaving us with plenty to handle.

Oakland Cemetery closed due to weather conditions

Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City will close to the public Monday, Jan. 25, 2021. The cemetery will reopen to the public after snow from the predicted storm has been cleared and the area is accessible.

Snowfall over the weekend, coupled with foot and vehicle traffic, has produced icy conditions that crews are working to improve prior to the additional snowfall. For your safety, we ask that the public avoid the area until safe access is available. Gates will reopen when the snow from the storm has been removed.
