Update 9:34 p.m. 3/20/2017

At 7:18 p.m on 3/20/17, the Johnson County Emergency Communications Center received a phone call from a Johnson County resident reporting that he had located a female in a farm field.  Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies responded and identified her as Vanessa Jones, the missing resident from Chatham Oaks.  Medical personnel were on-scene and transported Jones to an area hospital, where she is being evaluated and treated. 

Multiple agencies were involved in the search for Jones, including the Johnson County Sheriff, Iowa City Police, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa City Fire, Johnson County Emergency Communications, Johnson County Emergency Management, Iowa County Emergency Management, University of Iowa Police, Johnson County Conservation, Coralville Fire, Tiffin Fire, Oxford Fire, and Iowa County Rescue. 

The involved agencies would also like to thank the local residents who provided valuable time and resources to assist in the search effort.


Update 5 p.m. 03/20/2017

For the last 24 hours, eight public safety agencies have searched for missing adult, Vanessa Jones. The search has utilized over 50 personnel and various specialized equipment but has turned up no sign of her. 

The Iowa City Police Department continues to ask for the public’s help in locating Jones and requests the residents of Johnson and surrounding counties check their property and buildings.

Law enforcement officials from several jurisdictions are currently looking for a female who walked away from Chatham Oaks, a treatment residence for individuals with chronic mental illness, located at 4515 Melrose Avenue, Iowa City. 

At 5:34 p.m., Vanessa Jones, 35, was reported to have left the facility and walked to the west and entered a field to the south. She is described as a white female with brown hair and green eyes, approximately 5'4" and weighing approximately 160 lbs. She was last seen wearing a red sweater, pants, and pink Crocs sandals.
