On Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 7:26 p.m., the Iowa City Police Department (ICPD) responded to the Robert A. Lee Community Recreation Center, located at 220 South Gilbert Street, to a report of a group of juveniles disrupting patrons and refusing to listen to Recreation Center staff requests. A media release regarding this matter was issued on June 18, 2015.

Included in recent correspondence to the Iowa City City Council regarding the incident at the Robert A. Lee Community Recreation Center on June 17 are requests for the public release of the “recreation center video of the incident, the call for service, use of force report, etc.”  At this time the ICPD is able to release the recreation center video and the phone call to the Johnson County Joint Emergency Communication Center. Particularly because a juvenile is involved and there are state laws specifically addressing the release of juvenile records, the investigative reports will be provided to the City Attorney for review prior to any further release.

To view the recreation center video, listen to the phone call, view the original media release, and view a Memorandum to the City Council from City Manager Tom Markus regarding this incident visit https://icgov.org/project/robert-lee-community-recreation-center-inciden.... Prior to viewing, it should be noted that the video footage from the Robert A. Lee Community Recreation Center does not have audio capabilities.
