We love our City Park Pool!

The City’s Parks & Recreation Department has been working on a Master Plan that will help guide park development and maintenance priorities over the next several years. City Park Pool renovations are currently scheduled for the summer of 2025.

Some of the bigger projects have been pushed to the forefront due to the condition of facilities. One of these projects is the cherished City Park Pool – a pool that has welcomed community members for 73 years!

Iowa City Animal Services investigates dog bite

Iowa City Animal Services is investigating a report of a dog bite. The individual reported being bit around 5:50 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 5, on the corner of South Governor and East Burlington streets. The dog was described as a medium sized dog that appeared to be a breed of hunting dog. The dog was accompanied by a couple was described as in their early 30s.

Iowa City Animal Services is looking to locate the owner of the dog for information regarding its rabies vaccination history. If anyone has information about the identity of the owner, they are encouraged to contact Iowa City...

Iowa City Senior Center announces rebrand

The Iowa City/Johnson County senior center, formerly known as The Center, announced its rebranded name and logo.

Now called the Iowa City Senior Center, the updated name clarifies their identity, celebrating where they are located, who they serve, and what they offer. The new logo, with the curved, connected letters ICSC, is a visual representation of their values of connection, curiosity, and activity. The color shift between shades of blue signifies adaptability and openness to change–indicative of both the organization and the people they serve.

The Office of Equity & Human Rights is hiring for an hourly student intern. The tentative duration of the internship is January to May 2023 with variable daytime hours totaling 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. The wage is $15 per hour.

Iowa City Mayor Bruce Teague has proclaimed Monday, Oct. 10, 2022, as Indigenous Peoples' Day in Iowa City. The proclamation was signed at the Monday, Oct. 3, 2022, City Council meeting.

A growing number of local governments have recognized that, as our understanding of history changes, so must our commemorative events. Transit Notice: 5-Lower Muscatine detour announced for Oct. 4-Oct. 16

Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2022, the 5-Lower Muscatine/Kirkwood bus will be detoured due to road work on the east side of Fairmeadows Boulevard, south of Highway 6.

Outbound buses will continue on the normal route.

Inbound buses will service The Quarters using the Frontage Road as usual, but will then detour to Hollywood Boulevard. Buses will continue to Sycamore Street, Highway 6, and South First Avenue then left back onto Lower Muscatine Road.
