The Iowa City Senior Center has released its Spring 2020 (January-April) Program Guide.

Adults 50 and older who are looking to stay active, curious, and connected are invited to participate in programs at The Senior Center this spring. Registration opens Friday, Dec. 13, 2019, for programming that runs from January through April 2020.

The City will host an informational meeting on the upcoming American Legion Road Improvements Project.

The meeting will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019 at Hoover Elementary School's Second Floor Commons, 1355 Barrington Road. The meeting will include a formal presentation at 5:30 p.m.

Foth Infrastructure & Environment, LLC (the design consultant), along with City staff will be available to answer any questions residents might have regarding the project for the remainder of the meeting time.

Iowa City Leaf Vacuum Program has ended for 2019 season

This year, crews collected 516 dump truck loads of leaves, and made it through all seven zones six times.

As of Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019, the program will cease operating so crews can begin the process of winterizing and converting trucks for snow removal. Artist Jason Snell will be hosting the closing reception of his motion-sensor installation “Mutable Sequencing” from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2019 at the parking ramp, 220 South Capitol St., in Downtown Iowa City.

Legacy public art piece relocated to Riverfront Crossings Park

A longtime Iowa City public artwork has been relocated to a new and elevated location.

Iowa City's Riverfront Crossings Park is now featuring one of the original sculptures acquired as part of the Iowa City Public Art Program: "Four Module Piece" by Kenneth Duane Snelson.

The piece was first acquired in 1975 through a National Endowment for the Arts grant and local fundraising efforts spearheaded by area arts activists.
