Transit Rider Survey Underway for Iowa City-North Liberty Commuter Rail Study

A survey conducted on Iowa City area transit systems is underway to help determine the interest of a commuter rail line between Iowa City and North Liberty.

The proposed Iowa City-North Liberty commuter rail line would use the existing Cedar Rapids and Iowa City Railway to provide new transit service between Iowa City and North Liberty. The University of Iowa is an important travel market along this route.

Design and create clay holiday decorations, wind chimes, or a mobile in our crafting class for students ages 5-14 years.

The first class will be spent working from raw clay and decorating with underglaze. The second will be spent making stands, hangers, and wires for your creations.

Class meets from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, and 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30. The fee is $10 for residents of Iowa City and $15 for non-residents.

On Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11, 2019, veterans will be able to ride Iowa City transit for free.

The offer is available to all veterans and any family members accompanying them. Riders are asked to show a military ID or other identification that indicates veteran status.

Iowa City Transit will be operating normal hours on Veterans Day.

The City will be hosting a new event: the IC Climate Expo at Big Grove Brewery.

The Expo will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019, at Big Grove Brewery Iowa City, 1225 S. Gilbert St. This event will update the community on local initiatives and showcase findings following the City's 100-Day Study of its new emissions goals, and the accelerated community-based actions need to make them achievable.

The City adopted higher emissions goals after the City declared a Climate Crisis in August. The new carbon emissions goals are a 45% reduction of 2010 levels by 2030,...

Veterans Day schedule announced for City of Iowa City

Administrative offices at City Hall will be closed on Monday, Nov. 11, 2019, in observance of Veterans Day.

To honor those who have served, Transit is offering complimentary rides to veterans and their families on Monday. Riders are asked to show a military ID or other identification that indicates veteran status.

Unlike past years, curbside garbage, recycling, and organics will be collected on the holiday.

The City of Iowa City Green Iowa AmeriCorps team will be hosting a fall clean up from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019.

AmeriCorps members will be cleaning up trash along Highway 6 between Sycamore and South Gilbert Streets. Adult volunteers who want to join are invited to meet at 9:30 a.m. on the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Taylor Drive.

This event is being held in collaboration with the Southside Neighborhood District, Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity, and the Iowa Department of Transportation's Adopt-A-Highway program.

The City is working with the consulting firm Opticos Design on establishing form-based zoning regulations for an area in the South District of Iowa City. We are at a point in the process where we need your input.

The public meeting will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019 at The Park Lodge at Terry Trueblood Recreation Area, 579 McCollister Blvd.
