The City of Iowa City is now accepting applications for a grant program designed to advance social justice and racial equity in the community.

This grant opportunity is available to Iowa City-based organizations, both non and for profit, with the purpose of encouraging, empowering and engaging social justice and racial equity initiatives through programs, activities or services that help eliminate inequities in the Iowa City community. Programs that address one or more of the six priority services areas will receive preference including: education, building community, housing, criminal justice, health and employment.

The Iowa City City Council has approved $25,000 for fiscal year 2018, which will be split among the recipients.

The online application is available now through Jan. 2, 2018, at www.icgov.org/SJREgrantapplication.

The Iowa City Human Rights Commission will review all applications and make funding recommendations to the City Council no later than March 31, 2018. Funding will be awarded by June 1, 2018.
