Area organizations are invited to apply for the Community Climate Action Grant.
This program aims to address and enhance local climate action through innovative work that aligns with the actions in the Iowa City Climate Action and Adaptation Plan. Applications will be accepted Monday, Feb. 3, 2020, through Tuesday, March 31, 2020.
In 2018, the City adopted a Climate Action Plan which was created to reach reduction goals identical to those the U.S. committed to in the Paris Climate Agreement in December 2015.
In 2019, the City increased its goals in accordance with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC): reduce carbon emissions by 45% from 2010 levels by 2030, then net zero carbon emissions by 2050. This grant is designed to help further those goals.
For-profit groups can apply if they partner with a non-profit organization.
The online grant form can be found here.
To qualify, project goals must focus on climate in Iowa City. Grants cannot exceed $5,000, with $50,000 available July 1. All funding should be spent by June 30, 2021.
