Weather permitting, travel on the following street will be impacted beginning Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2022.

Washington Street will be closed to through traffic between Gilbert and Van Buren Streets. The Washington Street entrance to the Chauncey Swan Parking Ramp will be closed. The ramp will be accessible via Burlington Street through the Recreation Center parking lot.

The main entrance to City Hall, 410 E. Washington St., will be inaccessible beginning at 7 a.m., Sept. 14. All City Hall visitors should use the east entrance off Van Buren Street (across from the New Pioneer...

Celebrate Child Passenger Safety Week with a free child safety seat check on Wednesday, Sept. 14

In recognition of Child Passenger Safety Week, Sept. 18-24, the Iowa City Fire Department and Safe Kids Johnson County will host a free child safety seat check on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2022.

The free seat check will take place at Iowa City Fire Station 4, 2008 Dubuque Road, from 5-7:30 p.m. No appointments are necessary and walk-ins are welcome. Just bring your child safety seat, your vehicle and your child to the event. Certified safety seat technicians will be available to answer questions, check for recalls, and ensure your safety seat is correctly installed.

Downtown gated parking ramp hours to change effective Sept. 19

Starting Monday, Sept. 19, 2022, the Capitol Street, Dubuque Street, Tower Place, and Court Street Transportation Center parking ramp hours of operation will change to 8 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Saturday, and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.

Customers exiting these ramps will be charged hourly fees for parking during these times. The change in hours of operation was designed to ensure all gated parking facilities are on the same schedule.

The Chauncey Swan and Harrison Street parking ramp hours will remain the same, with hourly fees charged between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m....

The City of Iowa City and ImOn Communications have announced that they have launched free Wi-Fi service on North Linn Street. The network will cover the outdoor eating area in the block between Market Street and the alley just north of Market.

This project is a joint venture between ImOn Communications and the City of Iowa City.

The Iowa City Police Department welcomed a new officer on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2022, during a ceremony at Emma Harvat Hall.

Officer Dale Dellimore is from Naperville, Ill. Officer Dellimore previously served with the Cedar Rapids Police Department for five years and is certified as a Drug Recognition Expert.

Officer Dellimore is an October 2017 graduate of the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and will enter into the department's Field Training Program.
