The City's Engineering division will host a public information meeting to discuss construction of the Second Avenue bridge over Ralston Creek.

Update: Following an investigation, Iowa City police located the person who approached a group of children walking to school on Feb. 23, 2022. Police spoke with the man and believe his actions were not intended to cause alarm or be harmful.

The Iowa City Fire Department welcomed two new firefighters during a badge-pinning ceremony at Fire Station 4 on Friday, Feb. Feb. 18, 2022. The department also announced a promotion and two commendations.

Firefighter Sal Aleto is from Creston. Aleto was hired for the position of firefighter and has been assigned to Shift A at Station 1. Firefighter Chris Kenly is originally from Southern California and previously served as a volunteer firefighter in Fairfield. Kenly was hired for the position of firefighter and assigned to Shift C at Station 1.

City Council approves maximum property tax levy

At its January 25, 2022 meeting, the Iowa City Human Rights Commission elected Jason Glass as Chair and Ashley Lindley as Vice Chair. Both Glass and Lindley have served on the commission since 2020.

City names new Finance Director

The City of Iowa City has promoted its Assistant Finance Director and Controller to the position of Finance Director.

Nicole Davies has been employed by the City for the past eight years. She replaces previous Finance Director Dennis Bockenstedt, who vacated his position in December 2021. Davies has served as Interim Director since his departure.
