Iowa City Police investigate two overnight armed robberies

The Iowa City Police Department is asking for the public's help as officers investigate two, overnight armed robberies.

The first incident happen Monday, Oct. 17 at roughly 3:20 a.m. at Kum and Go convenience store, 513 S. Riverside Dr., Iowa City. The clerk told police a lone man entered the store with a handgun and demanded money. The clerk complied and the suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of money. The clerk was not hurt. The suspect was described as a black male, wearing a red hoodie and a black bandana that covered the bottom portion of his face.

A free workshop will teach area employers and professionals about the many benefits of hiring individuals living with a disability.

The Benefits of Disability in the Work Place workshop will happen Thursday, Nov. 3 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Eastside Educational Center, 2401 Scott Boulevard SE, Iowa City.

A panel of local business leaders will offer peer-to-peer perspective as well as a question-and-answer session. The workshop is best for human resources professionals, equal employment opportunity officials and other employment decision makers.

Iowa City Police asking for public's help in burglary investigation

The Iowa City Police Department is asking for the public's help as officers investigate a burglary.

On Thursday, Oct. 13 at about 10 p.m., police responded to a home in the 700 block of East Fairchild St. for a report of a burglary in progress. The victim told officers he located a male inside his garage and said the suspect hit him over the head with a hard object, causing minor injuries. The suspect then fled into the south alley and the victim lost sight of him.

Iowa City will celebrate the installation of a new 40 space bicycle parklet with a community gathering that includes breakfast and giveaways, Friday morning.

The parklet is the first of its kind in downtown Iowa City and will go in near the corner of Washington and Dubuque Streets in the loading zone space next to US Bank.
