The Eastside Loop transit route will continue last year’s detour during the upcoming closure of First Avenue

Transit will resume operating the AM & PM Eastside Loop route for the 2016-2017 school year on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016. First Avenue will close to traffic for work on the First Avenue Grade Separation Project beginning Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016.

The Eastside Loop began detouring around the work on First Avenue in August 2015 and will continue during the upcoming closure.

Maps of the AM & PM routes and schedule is available for viewing at

Please note, the Bongo map is not currently showing the most accurate Eastside Loop route. We are working to get it fixed.

Also, Eastside Loop route schedules were adjusted this year for new start and end times provided by the Iowa City Community School District.

The First Avenue Grade Separation Project will elevate the railroad crossing and lower the road, helping to reduce long train delays. Traffic will not be allowed on First Avenue between Bradford Drive and Mall Drive during the closure. The road is expected to reopen in early September.

Project updates are posted to as well as the City of Iowa City Facebook and Twitter
