Two Iowa City Transit routes, 2- Court Street and 9- Towncrest, will be impacted by the City High Homecoming Parade starting after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022, until the parade ends.

The parade route will begin at Mercer Park, 2701 Bradford Dr., at about 6 p.m., and proceed west on Bradford Drive to First Avenue. The parade will then travel north on First Avenue to Bates Field where it will end.

Buses will wait until the affected streets are no longer blocked by the parade and then resume service. The routes should be running normally before 7 p.m. that same night...

The Iowa City Police Department welcomed a new officer and recognized two officers for their life-saving efforts during a ceremony Monday, Sept. 26, 2022, at Emma Harvat Hall.

Officer Jordan Schuck is from Fort Madison. Officer Schuck has a bachelor of science degree in law enforcement and justice administration from Western Illinois University and previously served with the Johnson County, Kan., Sheriff's Office. Office Schuck is a certified peace officer in Kansas and will go through the process to be certified in Iowa.

With the City of Iowa City's 2022-2023 deer bow hunt program underway, the City is still seeking private property owners interested in allowing approved hunters on their land. Hunter applications are also still being accepted.

Participation in the bow hunt is only allowed on private property when conducted by the property owner or approved hunters with permission from the owner. Each year, the City’s Historic Preservation Commission and the Friends of Historic Preservation host the Historic Preservation Recognition Program to acknowledge property owners, consultants, contractors, craftspersons, and community organizations for their preservation efforts and completion of historically appropriate projects.
