The 5th annual PrideCon, a summit for LGBTQ+ youth and their parents/caregivers, will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019, at Elizabeth Tate High School.

Hosted by United Action for Youth, this day-long event provides a space where young people can connect with peers, learn about new topics, and receive support. The summit is free to attend and open to all LGBTQ+ junior high and high school students in the area.

Topics for breakout sessions at this year’s PrideCon are focused on helping young people learn how to effectively advocate for themselves and others in schools, how to take care of their mental and physical health, and how to be the best version of themselves. The event will also feature guest speakers, a therapist available to answer parents’ questions, and a drag performance at the end of the day.

PrideCon 2019 is hosted by United Action for Youth and is made possible by a grant from the Johnson County DECAT Board. Support from the Iowa City Human Rights Commission, Iowa City Pride, Old Capitol Screen Printers and private donors have made this event possible.

Parents/caregivers and young people can register for the event online. For more information go to, or check out the PrideCon event page on Facebook
