Iowa City Transit summer schedule will begin Monday, May 16, 2022

Starting Monday, May 16, 2022, Iowa City Transit will begin operating a summer schedule due to the end of the school year for the University of Iowa and the Iowa City Community School District. Schedule changes are listed below:

The Downtown Free Shuttle route will cease operating effective Friday, May 13, 2022. The last departure will be at 6:15 p.m. The AM & PM Eastside Loop routes will cease operating effective Wednesday, June 1, 2022. The last departure will be at 3:05 p.m.

Regular service on the Downtown Free Shuttle service will resume...

The Iowa City Police Department continues to investigate the shots fired incident at Mercer Park that occurred in the evening of Monday, May 9, 2022.

As of Tuesday afternoon, there are no known threats to the area. As a precautionary measure, police presence will increase in the and around the park while the active investigation continues.

The City and ICPD take all such acts of violence in the Iowa City community with the utmost seriousness. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Police at 319-356-5275.

Iowa City Police investigate Sunday shooting

Iowa City Police responded to a report of shots fired in the 600 Block of Highway 6 West around 4:45 p.m., Sunday, May 8, 2022. One person was taken to a local hospital to be treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

Officers remain at the scene and the case is still under investigation. Police do not believe there is an active threat to the public.

The Iowa City Public Art Advisory Committee has announced the recipients of the latest round of Public Art Matching Grants.

Funded through the Iowa City Public Art Program, local artists and organizations were able to apply for up to $3,000 in matching funds to help bring to life any number of art projects that will then be shown in Iowa City.

8 – Oakcrest route to see temporary transit service reduction effective Friday, May 6

Due to staffing issues, service on the 8 – Oakcrest transit route will be reduced beginning Friday, May 6, until May 20, 2022.

The 8 – Oakcrest route will reduce service on weekdays from every 15 minutes to every 30 minutes from 6 a.m. – 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

The Transit app may not reflect accurate arrival times for the 8 – Oakcrest route during the temporary service reduction. Please access the temporary bus schedule for scheduled arrival times.

The City of Iowa City has posted its latest water quality report, also known as the Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) to its website at www.icgov.org/ccreport . The 2021 report indicates that Iowa City drinking water far surpasses all federal and state drinking water quality standards.

Iowa City Fire Department responds to structure fire

The Iowa City Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 536 Olive St. at 7:09 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2022.

Firefighters arrived on scene at 7:14 a.m. and encountered a fire in the home's detached garage that spread into the attic space. The fire was brought under control within 10 minutes. Damage to the structure is estimated at $10,000.

There were no reported injuries and the fire remains under investigation.
