The Iowa City Senior Center, 28 S. Linn St., will be closed Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, due to the winter weather that is forecast for the Iowa City area. The Center is expected to resume its normal operations on Sunday.
Iowa City achieved an official certification as a Blue Zones community in February 2016, a designation awarded to cities that offer healthy alternatives in food, transportation and other areas. Additionally, The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, located in Iowa City, have been named one of America's Best Hospitals by U.S. News and World Report. Iowa City is also home to the Iowa City VA Health Care System and Mercy Hospital.

Through the Neighborhood Outreach office, the City of Iowa City supports and encourages neighborhood action and provides ideas and resources that can help shape the future of a neighborhood. Iowa City has eight historic districts that are on the National Register of Historic Places and protected by local historic preservation zoning.
