The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics have been named one of America's Best Hospitals by U.S. News and World Report. Iowa City is also home to Mercy Hospital, a pre-eminent provider of health care to the region.

The Iowa City Community School District is the fifth-largest school district in Iowa, enrolling nearly 13,000 students preschool through 12th grade. The City offers lifelong learning opportunities through a number of our departments and divisions.
Through the Neighborhood Outreach office, the City of Iowa City supports and encourages neighborhood action and provides ideas and resources that can help shape the future of a neighborhood. Iowa City has eight historic districts that are on the National Register of Historic Places and protected by local historic preservation zoning.
