The Neighborhood Services Division is responsible for the administration of various housing and community development programs. Neighborhood Services provides housing inspection services and administers federal, state, and local programs to meet the needs of the community.

Community Development

Community Development staff administers a variety of programs through various federal, state, and local funding sources to address the unique needs of Iowa City residents. Community Development regularly collaborates with local nonprofit partners to provide services to vulnerable populations and low-to-moderate income neighborhoods.

Housing Inspection Services

Housing Inspection Services operates a rental housing inspection program and inspects more than 8,800 rental units annually. Staff work with owners, property managers, and tenants to ensure conformance with the Iowa City Housing Code, which establishes minimum health and safety standards necessary to protect and promote the welfare of tenants and the general public as well.
