The City offers a voluntary deferred compensation 457 retirement plan.

• Employees may make pre-tax contributions to a 457 retirement plan. A post-tax Roth IRA option is also available.

The City offers a self-funded dental insurance plan administered by Delta Dental of Iowa. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time employees are eligible to elect single or family coverage.

The City sponsors an employee assistance program to all permanent employees and their family members. EAP services are provided by Synchrony Services.

• Confidential counseling and referral services. City receives utilization statistics regarding number of individuals utilizing the service only. No information is provided identifying individuals and the nature of services received.

Family and Parental Leave Policy

Permanent full-time and part-time employees are eligible to participate in any or all of the tax savings benefits of the City’s Flexible Benefits Plan. The plan operates on a calendar-year basis with open enrollment held each November for the following year.

The City participates in IPERS, or Iowa Public Employees’ Retirement System, a state administered retirement system.

• Employees may purchase additional life insurance for their spouse in $10,000 increments up to $300,000 as long as they purchase an equivalent amount of coverage for themselves.
• Employee and spouse premiums are determined by the age of the covered individual.
• Employees may purchase additional life insurance for dependent children valued at $2,000, $5,000 or $10,000.
• Evidence of insurability may be required for coverage elected after 30 days of employment or for amounts exceeding the guarantee issue amount.
