Safe Swimming Community Day

The Iowa City, Coralville, and North Liberty, Parks and Recreation Departments are partnering to host a Safe Swimming Community Day. Iowa City's portion will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center, 220 S. Gilbert St. 

Each department will host a free spring swim lesson to promote safety for the upcoming summer. 
Following a quick swim lesson and safety talk, participants will receive a Josh the Otter book, thanks to MidWestOne Bank.

Paint a Rain Barrel

Work as a team or individually to paint rain barrels on Saturday, April 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. GIA will provide the paint and brushes. Participants should bring a reusable water bottle and creativity. Artwork cannot be offensive.

Butterfly survey training

Learn how to identify butterflies and join in a citizen scientist effort to monitor butterfly populations through the Iowa Butterfly Survey Network (IBSN).

Established in 2006, the IBSN conducts research using volunteers of all skill levels to collect data. Of the 120 species of butterflies believed to inhabit Iowa, more than one-fourth are listed as endangered, threatened, or “of special concern,” making their long-term survival questionable in the state.
