Applications are now being accepted for the 2019 Citizens Police Academy. 

This workshop is sponsored by five area agencies, and works to promote understanding of what law enforcement does, builds better community relationships, and provides an overview for people who may be interested in police work as a career.  

An Evening With Rahim AlHaj

In collaboration with the Center For Worker Justice, join Rahim AlHaj for an evening of fellowship and conversation about his life and work in advance of his Hancher performance.

Born in Baghdad, Rahim AlHaj is a master of the oud—a stringed instrument with a history dating back thousands of years. Music has been a constant in his life throughout his years as an Iraqi, a political refugee, and now an American citizen.

This free event will take place Friday, Feb. 15, 2019 from 6 to 7 p.m. 

90's Skate Party

We're going back to the 90's!
Roller skate to the best hits of the 90's.
Dress your best in a 90's themed outfit.
Test your 90's IQ with trivia questions from the best TV shows, music, and historical moments.

90's Skate Parties will be Saturday, Feb. 16 and Feb. 23 from 6 to 8:45 p.m. at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center in the gym.

Skates provided. No fee to participate.
All ages welcome. Youth must be accompanied by an adult.

English Country Dance

Come to the English Country Dance and enjoy moving in smooth figures to gorgeous live music. Everyone who wants to dance is guaranteed a partner. Each dance is taught, and all ages are encouraged to participate. The dance form dates back to the 16th century. It appears in some movies portraying Queen Elizabeth I, as well as in film adaptations of Dickens and Jane Austen novels. Each dance has its own music. The tunes are hauntingly beautiful, ranging from old ballads, jigs, and reels to several immortalized in classical music and opera.

Fee: $3-$6; Pay what you can at the door.

The Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to offer free water aerobics classes the third Sunday of every month (no class in April)
Classes will be held at Mercer Park Aquatic Center.

February's class will be Sunday, Feb. 17 from 11:15 a.m. to noon at Mercer Park Aquatic Center.

Getting to Know Endangered Species: Sea turtles

Learn about endangered species and conservation efforts with the "Getting to Know Endangered Species" Series. 
Classes are held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center. 
For ages 5-12 years.
$6 per class for residents, $11 per class for nonresidents.
