Zentangle is an easy, relaxing form of art, creating a drawing with patterns. Anyone who is interested can do this. Beautiful images are made while increasing focus and creativity. The possible benefits are numerous. It is considered a Mindfulness activity, but also can develop into a supportive, fun community.

Materials: ultra fine line or fine line Sharpie and a pencil, notebook. Paper will be discussed in the first session. New and returning students are welcome!

Preserve Your Memories

Learn the important steps in preserving both your digital and printed photos. After the tutorial on steps for preservation, scan photos that you may have using the library's handheld scanners. Bring a USB drive with you to the class to save your scans and take home your hard work! Presented in partnership with the Iowa City Public Library. Registration required.

Persecution of German Americans

After the United States entered World War I there were concerted efforts to create support for fighting against Germany. Among the most unfortunate of these efforts were public campaigns against U.S. residents of German ancestry. This persecution took various forms, often with violent results. This presentation will encompass the persecutions on the national level, with particular attention to Iowa.

Drawing the figure is captivating and challenging. The figure may later inhabit our landscapes and scenes. We will be drawing both clothed and nude models. Please bring your own drawing materials. Participants must be age 18 or over.

$10 Per session. Pay instructor.

Family Folk Machine Presents: Stand by Me: Songs of Friendship

The Family Folk Machine will present Stand by Me: Songs of Friendship in two concerts this fall on Sunday, November 11 at 3 PM at the Senior Center, and Sunday, November 18 at 3 PM at the Old Capitol Senate Chamber. FFM will perform songs about different aspects of friendship and songs that say, “You sing for me, I’ll sing for you—we need each other, yes we do. It takes good music every day to keep those lonesome blues away.” Join us for this musical exploration of friendship!

$5-children $10-adult. Pay at the door
