Good Samaritan Society’s Services@Home is one of the largest not-for-profit organizations specializing in Senior Services. Services@Home is a Home Care Service, providing anywhere from 1-24 hours of non-medical care. Some services provided include: light housekeeping, laundry, transportation, meal preparation, bathing, personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, pet care, respite, etc.


Fee: none. No registration.

Before we used the camera phone, people made selfies by creating self-portraits. In this workshop, we will do just that! If you are interested in learning how to create your own “real” selfie, sign up now.  This event will meet in the Craft Room of the Robert A Lee Community Recreation Center. For youth grades 5 and up and adults. This is a great family event. Fee:  $8

Belly Babies: The First Three Months

Spring 2017 Roller skating

Iowa City Parks and Recreation offers open roller skating on Saturday evenings at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center, 220 S. Gilbert Street, from 6-8 p.m.

There is no fee to participate and skates may be checked out at no charge. An Iowa City Recreation Division facility pass will be required to participate, and all children under the age of twelve must be accompanied by an adult (18 years of age or older).

Barn Dance

Everyone is welcome to the Barn Dance! Even if you do not wish to dance, the old time country music, provided by the best local bands, is worth the price of admission. No experience is necessary; all dances are taught and called by an expert caller. There's no fancy footwork involved; simply walk through a series of movements that you'll soon master with the help from the caller and veteran dancers. Fun for all ages and abilities. The Barn Dance is open to all: singles, couples and the entire family. Lessons available between 7:30 - 8 PM, dance starts at 8 PM.


"Suffragette" Film Screening

Watch the 2015 film "Suffragette" after an introduction by Meenaksi "Gigi" Durham, University of Iowa School of Journalism. Professor Durham's research addresses representations of gender and sexuality in the media, focusing of the politics of the body, and the intersections of race, class and gender, and youth cultures. Stay for the movie (107 minutes) and popcorn.

The Sunday Speaker Series is cosponsored by the League of Women Voters of Johnson County and the Iowa City Public Library.
