This presentation will discuss the origins of Asian migration to America, some historically racist policies put in place by the U.S. government (Chinese Exclusion Act, internment camps), and current issues facing the Asian community now (deportation of Vietnamese, Atlanta spa attacks). This program is presented by UI members of alpha Kappa Delta Phi, an international Asian-interest sorority founded at UC-Berkeley in 1990 and established at the University of Iowa in Spring 2016. Its pillars are Asian Awareness, Service, Leadership, Sisterhood, and Scholarship.
