Volunteers are needed on Sunday, April 23, 2017 from noon to 3 p.m. along the Iowa River north of the McCollister Bridge to help remove trash, invasive species and woody debris.
Those interested in helping should RSVP in advance to the Iowa City Stormwater Volunteer Cleanup Facebook event or call 319-541-2385.
The group will meet and receive assignments shortly before noon on Sunday at the Napoleon Park Parking Lot, 3800 Napolean Lane. Anyone under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign a liability form at the start of the event. Volunteers should come prepared to get dirty: wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, and closed-toe shoes or boots. Hats are also recommended. The City will provide tools, gloves, and water. One additional clean-up is scheduled for April 30.
Clean-up events can be cancelled due to weather, shortage of volunteers, or other issues. Be sure to check the Facebook page after 10 a.m. on the morning of the clean-up to make sure it’s still on.
