Bountiful Communities, a community gardening workshop series

Put your gardening gloves on and join Iowa City Parks and Recreation staff in the Children's Discovery Garden for the new program, "Bountiful Communities Garden."

This program is free and open to all skill levels - no prior gardening experience required. Participate in hands on gardening projects from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month in August, September, and October. Meet in the Art Room or the Discovery Garden at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center, 220 S. Gilbert St.

Each month will cover a beginner gardening topic and focus on tasks like planting and weeding. Come prepared to go outside and work in the garden. These sessions will focus on edible and pollinator friendly plants in this no-spray, public garden.

Tues. Aug. 21:  Planting for fall harvests and pollinator friendly perennials. Limited plants available for participants to take home.

Tues. Sept. 18: Harvesting tips and planting the garden for next year.

Tues. Oct. 16:  Fall checklist and putting the garden to rest for the winter, saving seeds.

All ages are welcome, but youth 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Topics may change based on garden conditions. For updates and reminders, RSVP to the Facebook event
