In a continuing effort to provide quality public facilities and opportunities for their members, the City of Iowa City is in the process of developing a Senior Center Facilities Plan for the building located at 28 South Linn St. The purpose of the plan is to provide direction to the administration, the Senior Center Commission, and the City Council for future development, Capitol Improvement funding, and facility planning over the next five years and beyond.
Community input is an important component of facilities planning. This phase of the process includes an online presentation by consulting architects Rohrbach Associates. They will be discussing three building plan alternatives for the current structure. The web-based public input process has been created to allow a safe way for the community to have full access to the presentation and an opportunity to review and study the alternate plans and take the survey at a date and time that is convenient.
The formal presentation provides details on three building plan options that have been developed over the past year. Here, you can also find detailed information about the project, proposed plan documents, and a link to provide your input.
Your input is important, so respond soon! The survey will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, 2020. Once closed, the data will be collected, analyzed, and used to help develop objectives, goals, and next steps in the building planning process.

The facilities plan development process
The City released a Request for Proposals for Consultant Services for a Senior Center Building ADA Assessment and Facilities Plan Project in February 2020. Iowa City Architecture firm, Rohrbach Associates, was selected and was contracted to review and develop the plan in June 2020. The Rohrbach Associates team have had meetings with staff and have spent the early part of the review investigating, researching, and field verifying the site, building, systems, and operations before developing the proposed concept plans. The next step is the public input process.
Rohrbach Associates hosted an online presentation, made available on (date/time) to explain the projects, various options, and to help gather input.
The next steps in the planning process are:
- Finalizing the ADA study
- Collecting the public input information and organizing the findings
- Prioritizing needs and wants and developing cost estimates
- Developing phasing and project plans
- Presentation to stakeholders, City Council, and Administration
- Releasing a final facilities plan that will guide future funding requests and next steps.
It is anticipated that the facilities plan will be completed by the end of the year.
