Recreation Center Passes and Age Requirements

The City of Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department operates two recreation centers: Robert A. Lee Community Recreation Center, 200 S. Gilbert St., and Mercer Park Aquatic Center/Scanlon Gym, 2701 Bradford Drive. An ICPRD issued facilities pass is required to use the gym, game room and fitness area. Through this pass system, the ICPRD can better assess community needs by monitoring facility use to help plan for future services and amenities.

Initial passes require no fee, and replacement passes cost $2 each. Patrons 16-years-old and older may be issued at either recreation center, anytime during open hours. Youth ages 12-15 may be issued a pass providing a parent/guardian is present, and have completed and signed the membership form. Note: Facility policy prohibits youth 11-years-old and younger from using the facility unless accompanied by a responsible person, 16-years-old or older who can provide constant supervision.  Children under the age of 16 are not allowed in the fitness room.
