Recreation Center Passes and Age Requirements

The City of Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department operates two recreation centers and one seasonal outdoor pool:

An ICPRD issued facilities pass is required to use the gym, game room and fitness area. There is no fee for the initial pass, and replacement passes cost $2 each. Passes are issued at the recreation centers.

Detailed facility pass information: Patrons 16-years-old and older may be issued a facility pass at either recreation center. Youth ages 12-15 may be issued a pass provided a parent/guardian is present, and have completed and signed the membership form, also available at the recreation centers. Note: Facility policy prohibits youth 11-years-old and younger from using the facility unless accompanied by a responsible person, 16-years-old or older who can provide constant supervision. Children under the age of 16 are not allowed in the fitness room.

Amenities:

Fitness Room
No fee facility pass required.
Includes: weight machines and cardio equipment such as treadmills, stationary bikes, elliptical machines, and stair climbers. Note: Children under the age of 16 are not allowed in the fitness area.

Game Room
No fee facility pass required.
Includes: billiards, pool, table tennis, foosball and various table games available. A facility pass is required to use equipment. Facility passes are returned to user when the equipment is returned.

Gymnasium
No fee facility pass required.

Meeting Rooms
Includes: Meeting Rooms A & B (occupancy max: 50), Social Hall (occupancy max: 250), and kitchen. Click here for rental information.

Racquetball Court
Reservations encouraged, but walk-in reservations are welcome. To reserve, call 319-356-5100.
Court Fee: $4 per hour

Tot Time Program
Monday-Friday, 9 am-11:30 am
Fee: $1/child (Punch pass available:12 punches/$10)
Bring your kids ages 1 to 6-years-old to the indoor playground at the Scanlon gym. Kids can drive tricycles, tumble on mats, slide down slides, rid the roller coaster, and on Fridays, kids can jump on the inflatable castles.

Indoor Recreation Facility Rentals

Rent a meeting room, gym or the pool at one of the recreation centers for your next event. Birthday packages are available, but must be scheduled through a program supervisor. Current birthday party package offerings and contact information for the appropriate program supervisor are listed in the Iowa City Parks and Recreation Activity Guide.
