National Park and Recreation Month - July 2016

National Park and Recreation Month- July 2016In honor of National Park and Recreation Month, the Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department will offer free "Tot Time" and roller skating at the Mercer Park Aquatic Center/Scanlon Gym, Monday through Friday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. throughout July. Tot Time is a drop-in program for children 1 to 6 years, old accompanied by a responsible adult. Kids can tumble on mats, ride trikes, slide down slides, and jump in the inflatable castle. The program runs year-round. Additionally, this month, roller-skating will be available for older children and adults. Roller skates are available in sizes youth 12 to adult 12. Normal facility age/supervision requirements apply.

Summer 2016 Activity Guide

Take a look at all the Iowa City Recreation Division can offer you and your family this season. The Recreation Activity Guide is now available online and will be available in hardcopy at several City facilities the week of April 11. Those facilities include the following locations: Robert A. Lee Community Recreation Center, 220 South Gilbert Street; Mercer Aquatic Center/Scanlon Gymnasium, 2701 Bradford Drive; and Iowa City Public Library, 123 South Linn Street; Iowa City City Hall, 410 E. Washington Street.

Fall 2016 Activity Guides will be available the second week in August, and registration for activities will begin Wednesday, August 17.

Online registration

Online registration gets underway first, at 12:01 a.m. (one minute past midnight) on the day registration opens. You’ll be able to sign up and pay for classes online through the ActiveNet system.

In-person registration

In-person registration gets underway at 8 a.m. on the day registration opens (see above) at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center at 220 S. Gilbert Street, and at the Mercer Park Aquatic Center / Scanlon Gym at 2701 Bradford Drive.

Youth Summer Fun Program Info

The Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department is proud to announce a new summer program for teens. The Youth Summer Fun program will run 5-9 p.m., Monday through Friday beginning June 6-August 19. The program is open to students in grades 7-12, and will include many activities such as basketball, volleyball, double-dutch, crafts, gardening and more! No fee is required and enrollment is on-going, however pre-registration is encouraged as space is limited. The program will meet each evening at Robert A. Lee Community Recreation Center, 200 S. Gilbert Street.

2016 Party in the Park schedule

Sponsored by the City of Iowa City’s Parks and Recreation Department and the Neighborhood Outreach Division, Party in the Park gives residents a chance to enjoy their summer evenings outdoors with friends and family while exploring the City’s many beautiful natural spaces and neighborhoods. Events include live music, arts and crafts, and frozen treats. Party in the Park is a no-fee event and is open to the public.
