Riverfront Crossing Grand Opening Celebration

The Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce the grand opening of Riverfront Crossings Park presented in partnership with GreenState Credit Union. The celebration will take place on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at the park, located at 1101 South Clinton Street.

The festivities begin at 3 p.m. with an afternoon filled with outdoor family fun. Children will have an opportunity to explore the park's nature play area, participate in an art project thanks to the Iowa City Public Art Committee, and other family-friendly activities.

As the sun goes down, the park will fill with jazz tunes from the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. New Orleans-based Dirty Dozen Brass Band takes the traditional foundation of brass band music and incorporates it into a blend of genres including Bebop Jazz, Funk and R&B/Soul. This unique sound, described by the band as a 'musical gumbo,' is sure to be a foot-stomping good time.

The celebration will conclude with a fireworks show over the Iowa River at the end of the concert.

The goal of the Riverfront Crossings Park is to transform the riverside area into a new flood resilient park that includes walkable/bikeable connections from urban areas to the river and enhance Ralston Creek to become a community asset. The park includes trails, large nature play area, picnic shelter and event grounds.

University of Iowa Community Credit Union is excited to change its name to GreenState Credit Union this month. GreenState Credit Union has been serving residents in Eastern Iowa for more than 80 years, and they are now the largest credit union in Iowa with 190,000 members and 18 branch locations…and more opening soon.  GreenState Credit Union is proud to sponsor the Riverfront Crossings Grand Opening Celebration.

The Englert is proud to present the music for the Riverfront Crossings Grand Opening Celebration. The Englert has served the Iowa City community for 107 years as a vital community arts space and continues to expand their programming vision beyond the walls of the theater through vibrant partnerships and collaborative efforts with community organizations throughout the Iowa City area.
