90's Skate Party
We're going back to the 90's! Roller skate to the best hits of the 90's. Dress your best in a 90's themed outfit.Test your 90's IQ with trivia questions from the best TV shows, music, and historical moments.
90's Skate Parties will be Saturday, Feb. 16 and Feb. 23 from 6 to 8:45 p.m. at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center in the gym.
Skates provided. No fee to participate.
All ages welcome. Youth must be accompanied by an adult.
Kid's Eco Movie Series
Check out the Kid's Eco Movie Series on Mondays from 4-6 p.m. at the Iowa City Public Library - Meeting Room A. Every Monday, we'll show a different kid-friendly movie focused on the environment.
Movies in January include:
Jan. 28 - Hoot
Feb. 4 - The Rescuers Down Under
Feb. 11 - Bill Nye: Ocean Life
Feb. 18 - Fern Gully
Feb. 25 - Open Season
No fee to participate. All ages welcome.
These events are presented by Green Iowa AmeriCorps in collaboration with The Iowa City Parks and Recreation Department and the Iowa City Public Library.
Don't miss out on the upcycling fun! Events are free to attend, but please RSVP as space is limited. Materials are provided, or feel free to bring your own. Activities are suitable for ages 12 and up. Children need to be with an adult. This series will be Wednesday nights in February from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Eastside Recycling Center, 2401 Scott Blvd SE.

Pollinator Paradise Garden Workshop
Learn about gardens that support healthy pollinator populations. The primarily focus is on the ecologically, all important native bee species although other insects such as Monarch butterflies will also be covered. The class includes discussion of specific plants that support pollinators. Planting and maintaining a pollinator garden will be covered.
This workshop will be held on Saturday, Mar. 2 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the East Side Recycling Environmental Education Center. Registration information available online.
First Friday Free Fitness & $1 Aqua Zumba
All are welcome to First Friday Free Fitness! March's class will be POUND Fit at 5:30 p.m. followed by Aqua Zumba at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 8. Classes will be held at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center.
Challenge your creativity during our Upcycling Convention. This competition is meant to encourage locals to solve a problem by creating an invention made of primarily recycled or upcycled materials.
The Upcycling Convention will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at the East Side Recycling Environmental Education Center, 2401 Scott Blvd. SE.
Participants must sign up prior to the Convention to compete. Winners will be determined from four different categories:
- Most Creative
- Most Recycled Materials Used
