Northbound Capitol Street to be Closed on Thursday

Weather permitting, at 7:00 a.m. on Friday, August 18, 2017, northbound traffic on Capitol Street will be closed from Burlington Street to Washington Street. This closure will necessitate the closure of the Capitol Street entrance to the Capitol Street Parking Ramp. Access to the ramp will be maintained at its entrance off of Clinton Street. This closure will facilitate the maintenance of a fiber optic line in the area. Normal traffic will resume by mid to late morning the same day.

All-way stop coming to E. Court Street and Fourth Avenue, Sandusky and Taylor drives

Drivers should take notice of new stop signs coming to school routes. An all-way stop will be permanently installed at the intersections of East Court Street and Fourth Avenue, as well as Sandusky and Taylor drives in the upcoming days.

The changes are intended to improve safety at locations where a large number of pedestrians, mostly school-age children, cross the street. Additional warning signage will also be installed to highlight the traffic pattern change near both intersections.

People should use caution as drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians become familiar with this change.

For questions, contact Senior Transportation Engineering Planner Darian Nagle-Gamm at or 319-356-5254.

Lanes reduced on Sheridan Avenue for asphalt work

On Monday, Aug. 7, 2017, asphalt resurfacing work and pavement patching will begin on Sheridan Ave. from Summit Street to Seventh Avenue. This project will also include replacement of curbs and curb ramps at intersections to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.

Various lane reductions will occur during the project; however access will be maintained for neighborhood residents, emergency vehicles and service vehicles. Rerouting of pedestrian traffic at intersections may be necessary as curb ramp work is completed. Normal traffic on Sheridan Ave. is expected to resume by Monday, Sept. 11.

Drivers should be aware of this work and allow extra travel time, or seek an alternate route during this project. Always use caution when traveling through construction areas.
